Help Filing Your FAFSA

Filling out all the paperwork to get financial help can be overwhelming. Use this link to contact FCC’s Financial Aid office, where you can get help with the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), explanations of the money you’re eligible for, and a helping hand as you plan the best way to pay for school.

Emergency Management

Growing in visibility in recent years, the field of emergency management is focused on learning and improving all the ways in which society prepares for, responds to, and tries to reduce the danger from crises and extreme conditions. It can be as down-to-earth as helping neighbors make emergency plans, and as broad as organizing the response to hurricanes, wildfires, terrorism, or other major disasters.

Examples of careers in this field include:
Emergency planners, corporate risk managers, public information officers/crisis communicators, risk analysts, digital mapping technicians, grant writers & managers, emergency managers, and more

Criminal Justice

Studying criminal justice means learning about all aspects of the U.S. justice system and how citizens interact with it. From everyday community policing; to courtroom mechanics; to the highest principles, legal rights, and precedents; criminal justice majors learn what the system looks like, how it works, how it doesn’t, and what they can do to make a difference for those experiencing it.

National Security & Intelligence

Whether it’s analyzing and predicting criminal activity or designing the strategy and policies that advance U.S. interests on the world stage, knowledge is power, and National Security & Intelligence majors learn how to use it. This program will introduce you to the fundamentals of gathering and analyzing intelligence products, and the ways they’re used to inform decision-making at the local, state, national, and international levels. You’ll read, write, and debate like a true security expert, and come out equipped to help make the world a more just and secure place.

Legal Studies

From ensuring families have access to necessary services, to ensuring civil rights are protected in a courtroom, to drawing up contracts and official documents and beyond, the legal system is a critical part of a community. Major in legal studies and you’ll be prepared to guide and protect others as they navigate it. You’ll learn the fundamentals of a broad swath of legal disciplines, train your researching and writing skills, and get hands-on experience in community-based practical programs – all the skills you’ll need to pursue a career in the law.

*Pre-Law advising is available for those students interested in continuing their studies and eventually applying to law schools.

Fire Service Administration

Leading in the fire service doesn’t just require you to be an excellent firefighter; you’ll need to know how to manage people and champion your organization as it interacts with the rest of your community’s emergency response apparatus. Majoring in Fire Service Administration will prepare you to do just that. You’ll learn the principles of managing fire training & public safety incident response, the role of firefighting in emergency & risk management, the mechanics of budgeting for & operating a fire company, how to find and improve your leadership style, and more. Whether you’re a longtime firefighter looking for your next career move, new to the field and preparing for the future, or anywhere in between, this program will kit you out with the tools to succeed.

*While no previous firefighting experience is required to major in Fire Service Administration, for those that do have previous training from the Maryland Fire & Rescue Institute (MFRI), we offer several opportunities to use that training to further your degree progress.

Police Science

A better-informed officer is a more effective officer, and our unique Police Science degree program will weave together your training and our education to ensure that that’s you, from the start of your career to the finish. Specially built in partnership with the Maryland State Police, this degree offers credit for critical elements of your academy training and supplements it with broader general education and public safety coursework designed and taught with officers and candidates in mind.
